Piracy and Kidnapping

U.S. Crewmembers on Edison Chouest Vessel Kidnapped Off Nigerian Coast

Two crewmembers of the MV C-Retriever were kidnapped off that vessel by pirates while working offshore Brass, Nigeria. The Captain and Chief Engineer were reportedly kidnapped off the American-flagged, offshore supply vessel MV C-Retriever while it worked off Nigeria, in increasingly dangerous West African waters, early Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Reports suggest the Captain and Chief Engineer may have made it onto land with the kidnappers.

The Gulf of Guinea has seen a sharp increase in pirate attacks and crew kidnappings in recent months. Our thoughts are with these crew members and their families during this tense time. The experienced maritime lawyers of Spagnoletti & Co. stand ready to assist the victims of piracy and kidnapping, and their families, with advice and counseling, particularly as the presence of more American seamen grows in the dangerous waters off West Africa. Americans, many from Texas and Louisiana, and seamen of all other nationalities doing this dangerous and vital work have rights, and the experienced maritime lawyers of Spagnoletti & Co. are ready to assist.
