On Sunday, January 26, 2020, around 5:30AM Central Time, two tow boats, the Cooperative Spirit and the RC Creppel, collided on the Mississippi River near Destrehan and Lulling, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, near mile marker 123, just upriver from the Interstate 310 Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge. One of the vessels, the RC Creppel, sank. There were four people onboard the RC Creppel; one was recused but a search was begun for three others still missing. The Cooperative Spirit was also damaged but remained afloat.

The RC Creppel was pushing two barges filled with sulfuric acid. One of those barges was damaged, and some discharge of the cargo occurred. Environmental monitoring was implemented.
