Multiple people were injured as a result of a boating accident in Delaware County, Ohio at approximately 7:00 p.m. on August 3, 2020. The accident occurred near a marina at Alum Creek State Park.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that a boat made a sharp turn and struck two young men who were tubing nearby the marina. At this time, it has been reported that one victim ultimately lost his life, and other individuals were reported hurt. Officers with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources have acknowledged that they are unable to conduct the traditional Ohio Boaters Education Course at this time. It is unknown if the inexperience of the boat’s operator played a role in this accident. The accident remains under investigation by local authorities.

Unfortunately, the Alum Creek Reservoir has a prior history with deadly boating accidents. In 2014, a 19-year old woman was struck by a boat while water-skiing and ultimately lost her life. At the time, there were no speed limits at the reservoir.
