Arctic Fox II Fishing Vessel Sinks Off Coast of Washington

About 2:00 am on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, the United States Coast Guard received a distress call from one of the fishermen aboard Arctic Fox II, a 20-meter commercial tuna fishing vessel.  The report indicated the vessel was taking on water and the three fishermen on board planned to abandon ship.  At the time, the vessel was located off the coast of Washington.

The Coast Guard later found one fisherman alive in a lifeboat and, after an extensive search, the bodies of the missing men were found in the water.  At this time it is not known what caused the vessel to take on water.  There are some reports of mechanical issues that had plagued the vessel in the days prior to the tragic accident.

The Arctic Fox II is registered to Teague Fishing Corp. in Shawnigan Lake, according to Transport Canada’s vessel registry.
