Dredge in Deadly Explosion Identified as Orion Marine’s Waymon L. Boyd

The dredge involved in Friday’s deadly pipeline explosion in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel has been identified as the Waymon L. Boyd.  Houston-based Orion Marine is the owner and operator of the dredge.  The company recently spent $3.2 million to retrofit the dredge to run on electricity.

At the time of the explosion, there were 18 crewmembers on the dredge.  4 crewmembers remain missing, and 6 have been taken to local hospitals for burn treatment.  The deadly explosion remains under investigation.
