A plane carrying five people crashed on Thursday, August 13, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The five victims were two crew members and three passengers.
The plane, belonging to Agefreco Company, was on its way to Bukavu in South Kivu from Kalima in Maniema province. The small cargo plane crashed into a dense forest minutes before it was supposed to land at its destination. The crash investigation will be assisted by the United Nations mission in Congo.
Plane crashes are not uncommon in Congo, where safety standards are not as strict as elsewhere. None of the Congolese commercial airlines are allowed to fly into European Union airspace.
