Crane Collapses After Being Struck by Container Ship

by | Sep 14, 2020 | Maritime Law, Personal Injury

The container ship MSC MIA struck a gantry crane while leaving a terminal in Valencia, Spain on the morning of September 13, 2020.  As a result, the crane collapsed, and the crane operator sustained severe injuries.  Tragically, the crane operator is currently hospitalized. His condition is unknown at this time.

Operations involving cranes are some of the most dangerous that are done.  This is especially so in the maritime industry.  Safe maritime companies must take precautions to ensure that any lifts that are conducted are done safely.  This is both for the safety of the crew members on board a vessel, as well as those longshoremen who may be assisting on shore.
