There was an explosion on board a fishing boat docked in the Japanese port of Akita. The vessel belongs to a fishery cooperative in Aomori Prefecture. Local firefighters took more than an hour to extinguish the fire. The Coast Guard has reported that one fisherman who remained on the vessel while it was in port lost his life in the fire.
The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time.
