Fire Reported in Engine Room of Tejo Alges

A fire in the engine room of the cargo ship Tejo Alges has been reported by the ship.  At the time, the vessel was in the Bay of Biscay while en route from Ferrol, Spain to Greenore, Ireland.  Crew members on board the ship were able to exintguish the fire, but it is unknown if any were injured during the process.  The ship is currently disabled north of Spain.

The Tejo Alges was built in 2001 by Rousse Shipyard in Bulgaria.  It is is a general cargo ship owned by the German-based company Wessels Reederi GmbH & Co.  It is unknown what it was transporting at the time of the fire.
