Reports of Explosion at Georgia Power Plant

A transformer fire at Georgia Power’s Plant-McDonough Atinkson occurred Sunday, September 6, 2020.  Residents in nearby neighborhoods reported explosions at the plant.  Local firefighters were able to control the blaze.  The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.  It is unknown if any workers at the plant sustained injuries during the fire.

The plant is located on a 358-acre site and produces about 2,520 megawatts of electricity.
