Two Cranes Collide in Austin, Texas – 20+ Injured

by | Sep 16, 2020 | Personal Injury

Two cranes collided on Wednesday morning in Austin, Texas.  The cranes were working near the Mueller Development in East Austin.  Austin-Travis County EMS has reported there were at least 22 people injured in the accident.  At this time, no deaths have been reported, but numerous people have been transported to local hospitals for treatment.  It is unknown at this time what caused the accident.

Despite often being required for construction projects, cranes can pose severe hazards both to construction workers and to the general public.  Construction companies must ensure that their cranes are properly inspected and repaired.  When this does not occur, it can result in catastrophic personal injury or death.  On average, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are 42 deaths each year involving cranes.  Added to this are the numerous minor and major physical injuries that can result as a result of crane operations.  Safe crane operators must be aware of all hazards in order to ensure deadly accidents do not occur.  Communication is key when multiple cranes are operating in a confined space.
