Fire at Utah Meat Processing Plant

by | Oct 3, 2020 | Industrial Accident

A large fire broke out at the West Liberty Foods plant located in Tremonton, Utah on Friday.   Employees at the plant were evacuated, as were nearby homeowners.  The fire began in the plant’s boiler room.  It is unclear what caused the fire, but it may have been caused by thermal oil heated to high temperatures in the room.  The fire injured at least three workers at the facility.

Large processing plants can pose increased risks both to workers at the facilities and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken.  Although at this time it is not known what caused the fire, safe plant operators must always ensure that equipment is regularly inspected and safely maintained.  Not only can an incident like this result in a catastrophic impact on the environment, but it can also result in a loss of life.
