NTSB Issues Preliminary Report on Deadly Corpus Christi Dredge Fire

The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary investigative report on the deadly dredge fire that occurred on August 21, 2020.  Four crew members were killed after the dredge Waymon L. Boyd caught fire.  Houston-based Orion Marine is the owner and operator of the dredge.  The report indicates that the dredge struck a submerged 16-inch liquid propane pipeline.  At the time it was dredging near the EPIC Corpus Christi Marine Terminal, located on the Inner Harbor of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel.  The propane pipeline is operated by Enterprise Products Operating, LLC.

The NTSB’s investigation of this deadly accident is ongoing.
