Explosion at Indiana Plastics Plant – One Injured

by | Nov 20, 2020 | Industrial Accident, Personal Injury

An explosion occurred at a plastics plant in Scottsburg, Indiana on Thursday, November 19, 2020.  The explosion occurred in a fuel tank at the Thomas Plastics plant.  Early reports indicate a fuel tank exploded which led to other smaller explosions inside the warehouse at the plant.  One employee at the plant was injured in the fire, and was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.   It is unclear what caused the incident at this time.

Plastics plants can pose significant dangers both to workers at the facilities and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken, especially when catastrophic explosions and fires can occur.  Although at this time it is not known what caused the explosion, safe plant operators must always ensure that equipment is regularly inspected and safely maintained.  Not only can an incident like this result in a catastrophic impact on the environment, but it can also result in a loss of life.
