Landing Craft Lady Athena Sinks – Two Missing

by | Nov 29, 2020 | Maritime Law

The landing craft Lady Athena developed a list in stormy weather before sinking on November 25, 2020.  At the time, the vessel was in the Sulu Sea off the Philippines.  It is believed the weather conditions contributed to this incident.  Fifteen crew members have been rescued, and two remain missing.  The vessel was owned and operated by Kargamine Too Inc.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this tragedy.

It can be dangerous to work in any profession when safety considerations related to dangerous weather conditions are not made.  This is especially so when working on a vessel. Safe maritime companies must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of their crew members at risk.  The risks of catastrophic death as a result of sailing into dangerous weather conditions such as a tropical storm or typhoon must always be taken into account by safe maritime and cargo companies.  When employers fail to account for dangerous weather conditions, catastrophic incidents can result. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this tragedy.
