The offshore supply tug Carmen capsized and sank off the coast of Brazil on Friday, November 20, 2020.  At the time the vessel was near the Petrobras P-48 Platform, Campos Basin, Brazil.  18 crew members were on board at the time, who were rescued by nearby vessels.  It is unclear if anyone sustained injuries in this incident.

The vessel is owned and operated by Brazil’s Oceanpact Servicos Maritimos.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations related to dangerous weather conditions are not made.  This is especially so when working on a ship. Safe maritime companies must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of their crew members and passengers at risk.  When employers fail to account for dangerous weather conditions, catastrophic incidents can result. The risks of catastrophic death as a result of dangerous weather conditions must always be taken into account.
