Crew Member Falls Overboard from Cargo Ship MARE

A crew member fell overboard from the cargo ship MARE on Monday, December 14, 2020.  Following the fall, another crew member jumped into the waters in an attempt to save the first person.  Search and rescue operations commenced, but unfortunately only one of the individuals was able to be rescued.  It is unclear as to what caused the original crewman to go overboard.  The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

The MARE is a general cargo ship built in 1983, and operated and managed by Efe Gemi Isletmeciligi Sanayi.  The vessel’s registered owner is Efe Shipping & Trading Co Ltd.
