Fire on Crude Oil Tanker MARQUESSA

by | Dec 8, 2020 | Maritime Law

A fire broke out in the engine room on board the crude oil tanker MARQUESSA on December 8, 2020.  At the time, the vessel was east of Taiwan’s Orchid Island.  It is unclear what caused the fire, which ultimately disabled the vessel.  At the time of the fire, the vessel was en route to Singapore.  It is unknown if any crew members sustained burns in the incident.

Safe maritime companies must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members.  When ship operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous fires and explosions can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seaman at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
