Two Injured in Magellan Plant Explosion Released from Hospital

| Dec 7, 2020 | Industrial Accident, Personal Injury

Two of the contractors injured during the Magellan plant explosion on Saturday have been released from a local hospital.  At least seven contractors at the facility sustained injuries in the explosion.  It is unclear at this time what caused the incident.  At the time, a crude oil storage tank was being cleaned and inspected by a crew of workers from Shelton Services Inc.  Five workers remain hospitalized at San Antonio’s Brooke Army Medical Center.  Our thoughts and prayers to those impacted by this tragedy.

Plants can pose significant dangers both to workers at the facilities and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken, especially when catastrophic explosions and fires can occur.  Although at this time it is not known what caused the explosion, safe plant operators must always ensure that equipment is regularly inspected and safely maintained.  Not only can an incident like this result in a catastrophic impact on the environment, but it can also result in a loss of life.
