Fire on Livestock Carrier BASHAR ONE TRANSPORT

by | Jan 9, 2021 | Maritime Law

There was a fire on the livestock carrier BASHAR ONE TRANSPORT on January 7 or 8, 2021.  At the time the vessel was docked at Tuzla Shiprepair Yard, Turkey.  It is unclear what caused the fire.  Reports indicate at least one crew member required hospitalization.  The vessel is owned and operated by Coral Technical Services.

There have been a number of recent fires on maritime vessels.  On December 24, there was a deadly fire on board the trawler Sveaborg which killed three.  On December 25, a tug boat caught fire off Malaysia.  There was a fire on the container ship Maersk Elba on December 26, 2020, while the vessel was en route from Sri Lanka to Felixstowe, UK.  On December 26, 2020, there was a fire on the bulk carrier Port Star.

Safe maritime companies must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members.  When ship operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous fires and explosions can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seaman at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
