There was a fire on board the cargo ship KIRSTEN B on June 23, 2021. At the time, the vessel was in Kiel, Germany about to enter the Kiel Canal. The vessel was en route from Vyborg, Russia to the United Kingdom. The vessel was carrying a cargo of pellets, which caught fire and were smoldering on board. It is unclear what caused the cargo to catch fire. The vessel was berthed and had part of the cargo removed. It is unknown if anyone on board sustained injuries while battling the fire.
