There was a deadly building collapse in Surfside, Florida on June 24, 2021. During the tragedy, part of a residential building in Miami Beach, known as Champlain Towers South, collapsed in the early morning hours on Thursday. The building was 13 stories tall, and had 135 housing units. According to property records, it was built in 1981. At present it is unknown what caused the partial collapse.
