Helicopter Crash in Rome, NY – Two Injured

There was a helicopter crash in Rome, New York on June 29, 2021.  The helicopter crashed while approaching the runway at Griffiss International Airport.  Alarms on the helicopter went off as it approached the runway.  According to the Sheriff’s Office, the helicopter lost power and fell from 20-30 feet above the ground onto the runway.  It then bounced onto its side.  The pilot has been identified as Deekpak Dherny.  Two passengers on board, Charles Lewis and Joseph Fernandez, both sustained injuries and were transported to Rome Hospital for medical care.
