It was announced on Thursday, August 20, that the United States’ National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will assist in the investigation of the crash of the Air India Express plane on August 7, 2020.  NTSB is an agency of the United States government tasked with investigating aviation accidents.

18 people died in the crash including both pilots. Over 30 passengers sustained serious injuries according to local officials. The Air India Boeing 737 broke into two pieces on impact.

This is not the first disaster for an Air India plane. In May 2010, an Air India plane overshot a runway in the southern Indian city of Mangalore. That plane also ran off the runway and crashed into a ravine, ultimately bursting into flames. 158 people were killed..
