Explosion on Crude Oil Tanker SRI ASIH

by | Nov 7, 2020 | Maritime Law, Personal Injury

An explosion occurred on board the crude oil vessel Sri Asih on November 3, 2020.  At the time, the vessel was undergoing repairs at Yalova ship repair yard, Turkey.  Reports indicate an explosion occurred in the cargo hold of the vessel.  Five people sustained injuries during the explosion and were transported to hospitals for medical treatment.  The vessel is owned by Indonesia’s Fleetscape Sri Asih LLC.  The ship is operated and managed by Buana Lintas Lautan Tbk PT.

Safe vessel owners must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members and passengers.  When ship owners fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous fires and explosions can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seaman at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
