A crew member on the general cargo vessel PADEREWSKI tragically lost his life on Sunday, December 20, 2020.  At the time the vessel was docked in the Port of Baltimore.  The worker was assisting in pontoon relocation on the vessel’s deck when he was caught between the vessel’s structure and the lifted pontoon.  The worker’s identity has not yet been released.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted by this tragedy.  The vessel is operated by Chinese-Polish Joint Stock, and the registered owner is Tentmar Navigation Co Ltd.

Every year numerous workers are injured during operations on a vessel, especially those involving cranes.  Crane operations are one of the most dangerous tasks that occur on a ship.  The goal for any safe offshore company must be to minimize risks involved in this dangerous task any time a lift is performed.  All workers involved in the work must ensure that hazards have been properly analyzed beforehand.  Just last month, a crew member lost his life during operations on a vessel in the Port of Houston.
