There was a chemical leak at the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Spring, Texas on July 17, 2021.   Dozens of people experienced skin irritation and respiratory issues as a result of the leak.  Twenty nine people required care at local hospitals.  It is believed over 100 people were impacted by this incident.  Reports indicate there was a vapor release of a mixture of bleach and sulfuric acid.  Dozens of others were also impacted, but rejected medical care.

The park remains closed while the incident is investigated.

Amusement and theme park operators must take precautions to ensure the safety of everyone who visits.  Maintenance and repair work must be done, and attractions should be regularly and thoroughly inspected.  Hazards must be carefully evaluated to minimize the dangers to members of the public, and eliminate them before tragedies like this one occur.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this incident.  This incident occurs just weeks after the deadly incident at an Iowa amusement park.
