Explosion at Lake Charles, Louisiana Chemical Plant

There was an explosion at Westlake Chemical’s Petro Complex in Lake Charles, Louisiana on September 27, 2021. The facility is located on State Highway 108 in Lake Charles.  The plant was undergoing maintenance at the time of the explosion.  It is unclear what led to its occurrence.  Six contractors were injured during the event, and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

There have been a number of incidents at industrial and processing plants.  There was a massive fire at the Goldman Recycling Plant in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 21, 2021.  There was an explosion at a Savannah, Georgia facility on September 14, 2021.  There was an explosion at the James Oxygen & Supply facility located in Hickory, North Carolina on September 3, 2021.  There was an explosion at the Hazlehurst Wood Pellets Mill located in Hazlehurst, Georgia on September 2, 2021.  There was a dangerous chemical leak at the LyondellBasell Industries facility in La Porte, Texas on July 27, 2021.  There was a chemical leak at the Dow Chemical Plant in La Porte, Texas on July 21, 2021.
