Fiery 18-wheeler Accident in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana

by | Sep 9, 2021 | Auto Accident, Wrongful Death

There was a deadly accident involving an 18-wheeler in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana on September 7, 2021.  The accident happened on Highway 106 east of Paradise Lane.  An 18-wheeler that was pulling a logging trailer was backing into a work site and blocking the roadway.  A passenger vehicle driven by Luke Fontenot of Oakdale struck the 18-wheeler on the passenger side diesel fuel tank.  Both vehicles became engulfed by the resulting fire.  Fontenot was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

There have been a number of recent trucking accidents in Texas and Louisiana, resulting in severe injuries and sometimes death.  There was a deadly crash between an 18-wheeler and two other vehicles in Odessa, Texas on August 23, 2021.  There was a deadly rollover accident near Big Spring, Texas on August 24, 2021.  There was a deadly accident in Seguin, Texas on August 26, 2021.  There was a violent collision between an 18-wheeler and a train in Luling, Texas on August 29, 2021.  There was an accident involving an 18-wheeler in Manvel, Texas on August 30, 2021.  There was a deadly accident between a pedestrian and an 18-wheeler in Robinson, Texas on August 31, 2021.

Safe trucking companies must take adequate precautions to ensure that their drivers do not severely injure or kill members of the public in a trucking accident.  Industry standards require trucking companies to regularly inspect their equipment.  Safe companies must also supervise their driver to ensure that the company’s policies and procedures have been followed.  A driver cannot block the right of way for oncoming traffic, rather 18-wheelers must yield to other vehicles on the roadway.  This is true whether the 18-wheeler is changing lanes or attempting to turn into a job site or parking lot as was the case in this crash.
