There was a fire on the general cargo ship DOREEN on October 17, 2021.  At the time the fire broke out, the vessel was at anchorage in the Malacca Strait, Indonesia.  Reports indicate there was a failure of a hydraulic hatch mechanism which started the fire.  It is unknown if anyone was injured during the incident.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There was a deadly accident involving a recreational boat in Oregon on September 26, 2021. There was a deadly carbon dioxide leak on board the car carrier SANG SHIN on September 27, 2021.  The ro-ro cargo ship IVAN capsized on September 29, 2021.  A recreational boat capsized in Maryland on September 29, 2021.  A sailboat capsized off the Oregon Coast on October 3, 2021.  There was a deadly incident on the bulk carrier LUDOGORETS on October 13, 2021.

Safe maritime companies must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members.  When ship operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous incidents can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seamen at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
