Safety tips for offshore and maritime workers

On Behalf of | Oct 3, 2021 | Offshore accidents

Workers on oil rigs, ships, and other vessels regularly face harsh conditions. Personal protective equipment is an integral part of the safety protocol for these workers. One of the critical items that they need is slip-resistant shoes.

Other items are also necessary based on the situation. For most of these workers, wearing a hard hat, a brightly colored or reflective vest, and steel-toe shoes are part of the personal protective equipment that they need. They might also need other equipment, depending on their job and their working conditions. These situations should be covered in a safety plan.

What happens when a worker suffers an injury offshore?

It can be difficult to obtain medical care for more serious injuries when workers are offshore. Minor injuries are often addressed on the vessel or rig. Serious or life-threatening injuries may require evacuation, which can take time. These workers often have a difficult road ahead of them. For some, there’s never a chance to return to work because of the limitations caused by the injury. For others, the healing process is lengthy and complex.

All offshore and maritime workers deserve a safe workplace. Part of making this happen means having the equipment that they need. There must also be an appropriate safety protocol in place. When a maritime or offshore worker is injured, they must be able to obtain proper medical care.

Laws that are in place to help provide that cover these workers, so they aren’t left to cover all their bills on their own. Working with someone familiar with these laws is beneficial since they can be rather complex to make sense of.
