Woman Killed in 18-Wheeler Accident in Brazos County, Texas

by | Dec 16, 2021 | Auto Accident, Wrongful Death

There was a deadly trucking accident in Brazos County, Texas on December 13, 2021.  The accident occurred about 5:20 a.m. on SH 315 near Carthage, Texas.  Reports indicate that the driver of a passenger vehicle was heading westbound on State Highway 21 approaching Pleasant Hill Road.  As the vehicle proceeded, an 18-wheeler failed to yield to the approaching traffic and pulled into the roadway.  The passenger vehicle was unable to stop before striking the 18-wheeler.

The driver of the passenger has been identified as Miranda Meckel.  She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this deadly accident.

There have been a number of recent trucking accidents in Texas and Louisiana, resulting in severe injuries and sometimes death.  There was a deadly accident involving an 18-wheeler near Van Horn, Texas on November 28, 2021.  There was a deadly accident involving an 18-wheeler in Bryan, Texas on December 3, 2021.  Two Louisiana residents were killed in a multi-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler in Panola County, Texas on December 11, 2021.

Safe trucking companies must take adequate precautions to ensure that their drivers do not severely injure or kill members of the public in a trucking accident.  Industry standards require trucking companies to regularly inspect their equipment.  Safe companies must also supervise their driver to ensure that the company’s policies and procedures have been followed.  It goes without saying that an 18-wheeler must yield to other traffic on the road, and cannot simply pull out into the roadway without doing do so.  This is not only common sense, but is actually the law: a truck driver must yield to other traffic in the roadway.
