Work Begins on Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. Louisiana Project

by | Dec 6, 2021 | Maritime Law

According to the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, Houston-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. has begun dredging for a marsh creation project in southwest Louisiana. This is the second phase of the agency’s $32 million project to restore habitat destroyed following Hurricane Rita and other events.

Despite the importance of a project like this to the environment, safe dredging companies like Great Lakes must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members and of the public at large.  When dredge operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous incidents can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seamen at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
