Fire at Fertilizer Plant in Sunnyside, Washington

There was a fire at the Nutrien Ag Solutions fertilizer plant in Sunnyside, Washington on February 28, 2022.  According to reports, a fire broke out, resulting in potentially hazardous smoke being released.  Yakima Valley Emergency Management issued an evacuation order for anyone within a half mile of the facility.  It is unknown if any workers at the plant were injured.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There have been a number of incidents at industrial and chemical plants.  There was an explosion at the Shearer’s Foods processing plant in Hermiston, Oregon on February 22, 2022.  There was a large explosion at the Marathon Petroleum Corporation refinery in Garyville, Louisiana on February 21, 2022.  A contractor was killed in an accident at the Valero Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas on February 18, 2022.  There was an explosion at the Oxychem Chemical Plant in Ingleside, Texas on January 27, 2022.
