A large fire broke out at the Prime Eco Group Chemical Plant in Wharton, Texas on August 2, 2022.  According to reports, a fire broke out in one of the buildings of the plant on Tuesday night.  A shelter in place for nearby residents was issued due to concerns regarding chemicals released in the fire.  The chemical plant is located in the 2900 block of Highway 60 and County Road 142 in Wharton.  Firefighters thought the fire had been extinguished early on Wednesday, but it is believed to have reignited around 7:00 am.  It is unknown specifically what chemicals were released, but Prime Eco is a manufacturer of various chemicals and additives used in the oil and gas industry.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Refineries and plants can pose significant dangers both to workers and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken, especially when catastrophic fires or explosions can occur.  When explosive materials are present, it can also endanger those who are exposed to the smoke caused when a fire or explosion occurs.
