by | Feb 17, 2023 | Chemical Release, Industrial Accident, Wrongful Death

There was a hazardous materials incident at the ExxonMobil Olefins Plant in Baytown, Texas on February 17, 2023.  The worker was transported to Methodist Hospital in Baytown where he was pronounced dead.  Reports indicate there was a strong chemical odor coming from the victim’s body.  The emergency room was briefly shut down as a result of chemical exposure concerns.  It is unclear what substance the worker was exposed to.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this deadly incident.

There have been a number of incidents at industrial and manufacturing plants.  There was an explosion and fire at the Phillips 66 Refinery tank farm in Borger, Texas on January 17, 2023.  There was an explosion at the Quick Turn Anodizing facility in Guthrie, Kentucky on January 17, 2023.  There was an explosion at the Honeywell Plant in Geismar, Louisiana on January 23, 2023.  There was an explosion at the Kinder Morgan Plant in Snyder, Texas on January 31, 2023.

Refineries and industrial facilities can pose significant dangers both to workers and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken, especially when fires and explosions can occur.  Equipment must be properly inspected and maintained to ensure that accidents do not occur.
