The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) recommended on February 1, 2023 that consumers who use EzriCare Artificial Tears should cease while it investigates a bacterial outbreak linked to the product. According to reports, one person has died and three people have suffered a loss of vision because of a bacterial infection. At least 55 users of the product are believed to have suffered from a bacterial infection after use of the eye drops. The day after the CDC announcement, Global Pharma Healthcare, the manufacturer of the product, recalled the eye drops due to possible contamination.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this outbreak of bacterial infection. Safe medication manufacturers must take adequate precautions to protect their customers. When this does not occur, people can die as a result. It goes without saying that manufacturer’s must have adequate quality control at their facilities. When this is not done people’s lives are threatened.
