Dangerous heat levels were experienced by concert goers at the Houston-area Snoop Dogg concert held at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on August 21, 2023. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is an outdoor amphitheater located in the suburbs north of Houston. On the day of the concert, Houston experienced scorching, record-breaking temperatures reaching 108 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
Despite the number of injuries from this concert, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heat-related injuries are preventable with proper planning, hydration, attire and avoidance of sun exposure.
Injuries, heat-related or otherwise, are nothing new to Houston music lovers. Two years ago, eight people were killed and dozens were injured during a Travis Scott concert when a tightly packed crowd rushed toward the stage and crushed their fellow concert patrons. Shortly thereafter, several families of the deceased filed lawsuits against Travis Scott and Live Nation Entertainment, a promoter and manager of live performances.
