by | Sep 16, 2023 | Industrial Accident

There was an explosion at the Union Pacific Bailey Yard in North Platte, Nebraska on September 14, 2023.  According to reports, there was an explosion inside a shipping container at the railyard.  An evacuation was ordered as a result of the explosion.  It is unclear if anyone was injured in this incident.  The cause of the explosion is under investigation at this time.

This incident follows an explosion at the plant that occurred on April 20 of this year.  During the prior incident, a dust explosion occurred at a grain elevator at the plant.

There have been a number of incidents at industrial and manufacturing plants.  There was a fire at the SolvChem Chemical Plant in Pearland, Texas on August 28, 2023.  There was a fire at the BASF TotalEnergies Petrochemicals Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas on September 5, 2023.  There was an explosion and fire at the Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) Plant in Decatur, Illinois on September 10, 2023.

Refineries and industrial facilities can pose significant dangers both to workers and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken, especially when fires and explosions can occur.  Equipment must be properly inspected and maintained to ensure that accidents do not occur and that hardworking Americans are not hurt.
