Freight Train Collides with Fed-Ex Semi-Truck in Chicago, Illinois

by | Nov 22, 2023 | Auto Accident, Train Accident, Wrongful Death

There was a train accident in Chicago, Illinois on November 20, 2023.  Reports indicate there was a deadly accident at the Norfolk and Southern rail yard.  A Fed-Ex 18-wheeler was stopped on tracks at the yard, when it was hit by a freight train.  The freight train pushed the cab of the semi-truck into another train, derailing both.  The driver of the semi is believed to have been killed in the accident.

Tragically, there have been a number of recent accidents involving trains.  A train partially derailed after an accident in Elkton, South Dakota on August 18, 2023.  A BNSF freight train struck an 18-wheeler in Iberia Parish, Louisiana on August 21, 2023.  There was a train accident in New Caney, Texas on August 31, 2023.

Safe train operators must take adequate precautions to ensure that their conductors do not severely injure or kill members of the public in a train accident.  Industry standards require train companies to provide adequate training to their conductors and engineers.  Safe companies must also supervise their conductor to ensure that the company’s policies and procedures have been followed, as well as all applicable federal guidelines.  Failing to properly train or audit a conductor the company allows to operate a train can have tragic consequences.
