| Dec 14, 2023 | Auto Accident, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death

There was a deadly accident involving an 18-wheeler on FM-2978 in Tomball, Texas on December 14, 2023.  During the crash, an 18-wheeler carrying an oversize load missed a turn, and was attempting to back up on the roadway.  In the process, the 18-wheeler collided with a passenger SUV that was unable to avoid it.  The 18-wheeler was carrying a load of large steel beams which extended past the back of the truck’s trailer.  The collision was so severe it sheared off the roof of the SUV that was struck.  Tragically, a passenger sitting in the backseat of the SUV was killed.  Two adults and a minor child in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with injuries.  The victim has not yet been identified.  Our thoughts and prayers to those impacted by this tragic crash.

There have been a number of recent trucking accidents, resulting in severe injuries and sometimes death.  An 18-wheeler that was hauling junk cars overturned on the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Fayette County, Texas on November 30, 2023.  There was an 18-wheeler crash near Henderson, Texas on December 1, 2023.  There was a deadly crash involving a dump truck in Travis County, Texas on December 3, 2023.  There was a crash involving an 18-wheeler near the Port of Houston in Harris County, Texas on December 7, 2023.  A Livingston ISD student was killed by an 18-wheeler on December 7, 2023.

Safe trucking companies must take adequate precautions to ensure that their drivers do not severely injure or kill members of the public in a trucking accident.  Industry standards require trucking companies to regularly inspect their equipment, including their tires.  Safe companies must also supervise their driver to ensure that the company’s policies and procedures have been followed.  Of course, technological advancements may pose additional hazards.  It goes without saying that an 18-wheeler must yield to other cars on the roadway.  18-wheelers pose significant risks on the roadway.
