BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders Recalled for Fire and Laceration Hazards

BlendJet Inc. is recalling over 4.8 million BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders after reports of the blenders’ blades breaking and instances of the product overheating and catching fire. This recall, initiated due to dozens of injuries, involves units sold at major retailers like Costco, Target, and Walmart.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) notice states that BlendJet has received 329 reports of blender blades breaking during use and 17 reports of overheating or fires. These incidents have led to property damage claims of approximately $150,000. Additionally, BlendJet has documented 49 cases of minor burns and one laceration injury.

Consumer Reports, however, presented concerns to the CPSC and BlendJet about the blenders as early as June 2023. One notable complaint described a blender smoking while charging, resulting in a burn injury to a consumer’s son.

Despite these concerns, BlendJet has chosen not to offer refunds to customers who have purchased the potentially defective products. A BlendJet spokesperson stated, “BlendJet customers love their BlendJets and want to continue to enjoy them for years to come. Through this recall, we are allowing them to do that.”

The recalled blenders were manufactured in China and sold from October 2020 through November 2023 for $50 to $75. The affected units have serial numbers with the first four digits ranging between 5201 and 5542. Consumers are advised to verify their blender’s eligibility for replacement using the identification tool available on BlendJet’s website.
