Best Buy Announces Recall of Insignia Air Fryers Over Safety Concerns

by | Mar 16, 2024 | Personal Injury, Product Recalls

Best Buy has issued a recall for nearly 287,300 Insignia-branded Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens in the United States and Canada after 24 units caught fire and/or had its glass shatter. Announced on March 14, 2024, this recall follows reports of the appliances overheating, posing serious fire, burn, and laceration hazards to users.

The Risk at Hand

The safety concern stems from the appliances’ catching fire, resulting in melted or broken handles on the air fryers, and in the case of the air fryer ovens, overheating has led to shattered glass doors. These defects not only elevate the risk of fire but also pose significant burn and laceration dangers to consumers.

Affected Models

The recall encompasses a range of Insignia models, including:

– Insignia 3.4-qt. Digital Air Fryer (Model NS-AF34D2)
– Insignia 5-qt. Digital Air Fryer (Models NS-AF5DSS2 and NS-AF5MSS2)
– Insignia 8-qt. Air Fryer Dual Basket (Model NS-AF8DBD2)
– Insignia 10-qt. Digital Air Fryer Oven (Models NS-AF10DBK2 and NS-AF10DSS2)

These models, identifiable by the “Insignia” branding and model numbers found on a label on the underside of each unit, were sold at Best Buy stores and online platforms, including www.bestbuy.com and eBay, from November 2021 to November 2023.

Incidents Reported

To date, Best Buy has received 24 reports of the air fryers overheating, melting, or glass shattering, including six instances of the appliances catching fire.
