There was a deadly plane crash in McDowell County, North Carolina on July 8, 2024. The plane, a single-engine Cessna 182, crashed in a mountainous area with three people on board. The plane was en route from Mountain City, Tennessee to Rutherford County, North Carolina. The victims have been identified as Adam Plummer, Scott George and Charles Mather Jr. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
