A major recall has been issued by Casely Inc. involving nearly 430,000 portable wireless power banks after dozens of reports of overheating and fire hazards. The recalled devices pose a serious risk of burns and property damage, and consumers are being urged to stop using the product immediately.
What Product Is Affected?
The product under recall is the Casely Power Pod, a portable MagSafe-compatible wireless charger with a 5000mAh capacity and model number E33A. The model number can be found printed on the back of the unit. The front displays the brand name “Casely,” and the chargers were offered in a range of colors and designs. These compact devices measure approximately 3 x 2 x 0.25 inches and weigh just over 3 ounces.
The power banks were sold online through getcasely.com, Amazon, and various e-commerce retailers between March 2022 and September 2024, with prices ranging from $30 to $70.
Why Is the Product Being Recalled?
Casely initiated the recall after receiving at least 51 consumer reports of the power banks overheating, swelling, or catching fire during use. These incidents occurred while the devices were being used to charge phones, and six individuals suffered minor burn injuries as a result.
The hazard is linked to the lithium-ion battery inside the device, which can become unstable and ignite—a known issue in certain improperly manufactured battery products. Due to the severity of the potential danger, Casely is offering a free replacement for all affected units.
What Should You Do If You Own One?
If you have one of the affected power banks, take the following steps immediately:
- Stop using the power bank to avoid risk of injury or fire.
- Go to Casely’s Recall Page and fill out the replacement form.
- Submit two photographs.
- One of the front of the power bank with the word “Recalled” and the current date written on it in permanent marker.
- One of the back showing the model number (E33A).
- Dispose of the power bank according to your local hazardous waste guidelines. Do not place it in the trash or curbside recycling bins.
Casely is offering free replacements with new UL-Certified Power Pods, and proof of purchase is not required to obtain a replacement. The company has stated it is contacting all known purchasers directly.
Lithium-Ion Battery Safety and Disposal
Because lithium-ion batteries are highly flammable under certain conditions, special care must be taken when disposing of them. These batteries should never be thrown in the trash or general recycling bins. Contact your local hazardous waste facility to determine how to safely dispose of the recalled charger.
Legal Implications for Defective Battery Injuries
Defective consumer electronics can cause significant injuries and financial loss. Manufacturers and distributors have a legal obligation to ensure their products are safe for consumer use. When that duty is breached — whether due to poor design, faulty components, or insufficient safety testing — consumers may have the right to seek compensation for:
- Medical bills
- Burn injuries or disfigurement
- Property damage
- Emotional distress
If you or a loved one has suffered injury or damages as a result of a malfunctioning electronic device, it’s important to consult a product liability or personal injury lawyer familiar with defective product cases.
