by | Apr 25, 2025 | Auto Accident, Personal Injury, Tour Bus Accident

A major traffic accident involving a charter bus full of students from Colorado occurred Friday in Fort Worth, Texas, resulting in at least two hospitalizations.  The collision happened around noon on April 25, 2025, along southbound U.S. Highway 287, just north of Bonds Ranch Road. According to the Fort Worth Police Department, the charter bus collided with a rock hauler truck that was traveling ahead of it. Aerial footage showed the bus with a severely damaged front end and a shattered windshield, stopped behind the heavily loaded semi.

The bus was carrying 56 people on it, mostly schoolchildren participating in a trip organized by a Colorado-based Christian youth singing group.  Authorities confirmed that two individuals from the bus sustained injuries that required hospitalization. It is unclear how many additional occupants were injured.

Investigation into the Crash

An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision. Officials have not yet released information on whether speed, driver inattention, brake failure, vehicle conditions, or other factors contributed to the accident. There are a number of factors that can contribute to a bus crash in Fort Worth.

Given the size of the vehicles involved and the number of minors affected, investigators are expected to closely review:

  • The maintenance records and operational status of both vehicles.
  • The actions of both drivers leading up to the crash.
  • Visibility, traffic conditions, and weather at the time of the incident.

Accidents involving commercial transport vehicles, especially buses carrying children, often undergo rigorous investigation due to the heightened duty of care owed to young passengers.

Legal Rights After a Bus or Truck Accident

Crashes involving buses and commercial trucks can lead to serious injuries and complex legal claims. Victims and their families may have grounds to pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages. Liability could extend to the drivers, trucking companies, bus operators, maintenance providers, or even manufacturers if mechanical failure played a role.

Establishing liability often requires a detailed review of safety practices, driver training, vehicle maintenance records, and compliance with federal and state transportation regulations.
