Fatal Head-On 18-Wheeler Crash in Crane County, Texas

by | Apr 22, 2025 | Auto Accident, Wrongful Death

A heartbreaking collision in West Texas has claimed the life of a 32-year-old Arlington, Texas resident. The crash occurred Wednesday morning, April 16, 2025, along Farm-to-Market Road 1053 in Crane County. Authorities confirmed the woman died at the scene after her car was struck head-on by a semi-truck that had crossed into her lane.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident took place around 10:20 a.m. when a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia truck, towing a trailer, was traveling north on FM 1053. A blowout of the truck’s front-left tire caused the vehicle to swerve uncontrollably into the southbound lane.

At the same time, a southbound Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 32-year-old Susan Marie Komanetsky of Arlington, was unable to avoid the oncoming truck. The two vehicles collided head-on, and the impact triggered a fire in the semi-truck. Komanetsky tragically lost her life in the crash.

The Dangers of Truck Tire Failures

Tire blowouts are a known risk for large commercial trucks, especially when operating at highway speeds. A front tire failure can cause a driver to lose control in an instant, leading to devastating consequences. Investigations often focus on whether the tires were properly maintained, inflated, or replaced in a timely manner.

Commercial trucking companies are required to follow strict federal safety regulations, including regular inspections and maintenance. When they fail to do so, accidents like this one can occur — with deadly consequences.

Legal Options After a Fatal Truck Crash

Families who lose a loved one in a commercial truck accident have the right to explore legal action. If a trucking company, maintenance provider, or other third party was negligent, they may be held liable in a wrongful death claim. These claims may provide financial relief for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support
  • Emotional suffering and loss of companionship
  • Medical bills incurred before death

Navigating the legal aftermath of a fatal crash can be overwhelming, especially while grieving. That’s why it is crucial to speak with a truck accident attorney as soon as possible. Evidence must be preserved, witness statements collected, and an investigation conducted to determine who is legally responsible.
