SharkNinja Recalls Nearly 2 Million Pressure Cookers After Reports of Serious Burn Injuries

by | May 5, 2025 | Product Recalls

SharkNinja has issued a major recall affecting approximately 1.8 million of its Ninja Foodi multi-function pressure cookers after dozens of consumers reported suffering serious burns. The malfunction is tied to the pressure-cooking feature, which may allow users to open the lid while contents are still under pressure — causing scalding food and steam to escape forcefully.

Burn Injuries Linked to Defective Lid Mechanism

The recalled cookers are part of the Ninja Foodi OP300 Series, sold in black with a 6.5-quart capacity. They were widely available at retailers like Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Target, Amazon, and the manufacturer’s own website between January 2019 and March 2025.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has received over 100 injury reports, including more than 50 involving second- and third-degree burns. In some cases, the malfunction occurred while users were preparing meals, causing burns to the face, arms, and torso. Twenty-six lawsuits have already been filed by consumers who say the cookers caused them significant harm.

The recall includes multiple model numbers beginning with OP300 and ending with variations like OP301A, OP302HB, OP305CO, and others. Some replacement lids sold as accessories are also included.

What Owners Should Do

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the pressure-cooking function on these models. SharkNinja is offering a free replacement lid to correct the defect. Owners can request a replacement online through the company’s recall page without needing proof of purchase. Other features of the device, such as air frying, may still be used safely.

Risks of Product Defects and Consumer Rights

When a product is poorly designed or malfunctions due to a manufacturing defect, the consequences can be devastating. Pressure cookers, in particular, involve high temperatures and sealed steam pressure — meaning any failure can result in explosive force, burns, or kitchen fires.

Consumers have the right to expect that the products they use in their homes are safe. If a product causes injury due to a defect in design, manufacturing, or lack of proper warnings, the manufacturer, distributor, or retailer may be legally responsible for resulting harm. Victims may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical expenses
  • Pain and suffering
  • Lost wages or income
  • Permanent scarring or disfigurement
  • Emotional distress
