Product Recall Overview
On June 12, 2025, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment Inc. announced a major recall involving approximately 113,000 RYOBI 40V 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmers in the United States, with an additional 15,000 units sold in Canada. This safety recall was issued in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada due to a serious laceration hazard.
Hazard Summary
The affected trimmers have a critical safety defect: the blade can unexpectedly activate if either the trigger or safety handle is pressed individually, rather than requiring both to be engaged simultaneously as intended. This malfunction bypasses the standard dual-control safety feature designed to prevent accidental activation. To date, 27 incidents have been reported, including 16 injury reports, some involving severe lacerations.

Legal Insight: What Injured Consumers Should Know
When a product fails to operate safely and causes injury, manufacturers and importers may be held legally responsible under product liability laws. If you or a loved one was injured by a recalled hedge trimmer, you may have a claim for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. A timely investigation can preserve key evidence, such as photos, medical records, or even the defective unit itself.
