Skydiving Plane Crashes Near Tullahoma Airport in Tennessee, Multiple Injured

by | Jun 9, 2025 | Aviation Accident, Personal Injury

A skydiving aircraft carrying 20 people crashed shortly after takeoff from Tullahoma Regional Airport in Coffee County, Tennessee, on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Several passengers sustained injuries, some of them serious, according to local officials. The accident involved a DeHavilland DH-6 Twin Otter aircraft and is now under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Incident Summary

The crash occurred just moments after the plane departed the airport at approximately 12:30 p.m. Witnesses reported that the aircraft experienced an “unknown issue” leading to impact with trees and rough terrain near Old Shelbyville Road. Video from the scene showed significant structural damage, including a detached tail section.

Authorities confirmed that three individuals were airlifted to hospitals, one was transported by ground for more serious injuries, and others were treated at the crash site for minor injuries. Remarkably, no fatalities were reported, and no one on the ground was hurt.  The aircraft was reportedly operating as part of a skydiving operation, and all 20 people on board included both crew and skydivers. Investigators are working to determine whether mechanical failure, pilot error, or other factors contributed to the incident.

Legal Implications in Skydiving and Aviation Accidents

Skydiving flights, while exhilarating, involve significant risk—and aviation operators are held to strict safety standards. When a plane crash results in injury, passengers have the right to seek accountability and legal compensation if negligence or operational errors are involved.

An aviation accident lawyer can help injured passengers and their families pursue claims against:

  • The skydiving company or operator of the flight
  • The maintenance company responsible for aircraft upkeep
  • Aircraft or parts manufacturers (in cases of mechanical failure)
  • Pilots or crew whose actions contributed to the crash

Liability in aviation accidents is often complex. Skydiving operations may involve waivers, independent contractors, and shared ownership of aircraft—all of which require a detailed investigation to uncover the responsible parties.

Rights of Passengers After a Plane Crash

Injured passengers may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical expenses and rehabilitation costs
  • Lost income or reduced earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional trauma and mental distress
  • Permanent disability or disfigurement

Even if passengers signed a liability waiver for a recreational activity such as skydiving, those documents do not shield companies from all forms of negligence or gross misconduct. A skilled plane crash attorney can evaluate the facts of the case and determine whether a waiver is enforceable or invalid under state and federal law.
